Although I love riding in most all diciplines offered in the equine world, I personally love to barrel race and compete in timed events most of all.
When we first moved to Eastern South Dakota I looked into the various local clubs offering barrel racing and timed events and was very disappointed in the selection of clubs offered (too few), the distances you were required to travel to compete (many miles), and the associations you were allowed to accumulate points in (too few in our local area).
Codington County Barrel Racing Association, aka CCBRA, is a dreamchild of mine. I would like to organize a local barrel racing association that allows local residents a chance to compete at the local level without having to travel more than a 100 mile radius while allowing your points to accumulate for Year End Awards at the local level and also qualify to participate at the Regional/National level through NBHA, the National Barrel Horse Association, for those who wish to do so.
Our goal is to eventually make the Lazy Dream Ranch the home of CCBRA, and to conduct barrel races on a weekly or bi-weekly basis from mid-April through mid-October, but....we need members. If you are interested in getting this association off the ground, please email me for more information.
Until the time when we can generate enough interest to get the association off the ground, only our local Watertown Saddle Club offers classes of barrel racing and timed events for points and the Heartland Barrel Futurity Club also offers barrel races at various arenas.
