OUR GOALS...
The Lazy Dream Ranch is a small private facility and is the culmination of all our hopes and dreams for our deep seated love of the Appaloosa horse.

Our first and foremost goal is our dedication to the preservation and the promotion of the Apaloosa as a true blood-bred that was the icon of the great Nez Perce Nation.  We believe that select, responsible breeding practices preserve the integrity of the breed and honor the tradition and heritage of the unequaled versatility, strength, intelligence and beauty of the Appaloosa and the Nation from which it came.

Genetic studies point to a lack of color strength within the Modern Appaloosa and show that current rates of crossbreeding Appaloosas is quickly depleting the current gene pool as evidenced by the high numbers of non-characteristic Appaloosas registered.  In order to preserve the color integrity of this breed, we believe it is up to breeders to make a conscious effort to maintain and enhance Appaloosa to Appaloosa breeding programs, because as history shows, the Nez Perce people through their practice of the strictest breeding program for over a hundred years, maintained and produced the toughest, most intelligent and most versatile horses on the northern continent.

We do not stand a stud at our ranch because we believe, as in Native belief and evidenced by the history of the "Old Blue Mare", that it is the mare that contributes and produces a large majority of what her foal will be when successfully mated.  Therefore, we have chosen instead to begin our breeding program with a few select mares, and with responsible selection of her mate, produce versatile, quality foals that will perpetuate even better quality than the generation before, taking the Modern Appaloosa back to, and maintaining, the characteristics of their original roots.

In keeping with our Indian Beliefs and Traditions, we have also chosen to add a couple of select American Indian Horse Registery (AIHR) mares to our herd that will uphold the Honor of the "people".

We practice natural horsemanship skills and endorse the natural horsemanship training methods taught by Native American teacher Gai Wa Ni Pony Boy called "Relationship Training".  We believe that horse and rider should be as one, no matter what discipline of riding they participate in.

Secondly, we would like to educate and bring understanding of Native American culture to All Our Relations and hope that the Native American portion of our website dedicated to that education will accomplish this goal and bring "the people" into your homes.
